Vaana-review

Starring: Vinay, Nila, Suman, Jayasudha, Seetha, Naresh, Dharmavarapu Subramanyam
Director: M.S. Raju
Music: M.S.Raju

Good

MS Raju’s lates offering ‘Vaana’ both as a producer as well as director is an honest attempt to make a neat film, which goes against the current trend. The film is a beautiful love story but with a subtle but clear message in the end for all young lovers.
Vinay is the only son of rich parents Jayasudha and Naresh. He has no aim in life and is wandering about enjoying the comforts provided by his businessman father Naresh. He comes across a beautiful girl Meera Chopra at a mall. He is so taken in by her beauty that he fails to notice a open manhole and falls into it. Meera rescues him and in the resultant confusion, she leaves behind her newly purchased watch.
The hero sees her with his face fully covered in the black drainage water. He tries to get in touch with a help of a phone-in programme on Radio. But it does not materialize. He sees her once again while he and his mother are going to attend a marriage. Vinay comes across the heroine once again but this time too his face is covered in black engine oil.
Vinay and Jayasudha reach Suman’s house and there Vinay learns that Meera is the daughter of Suman, a retired colonel and Seetha.
Meera’s marriage is fixed and her marriage is just about a week away. The hero manages to make Meera falls in love with him in just four days. Meera is even ready to elope with Vinay just two days before the marriage.
At this stage, Meera’s mother learns about her daughter trying to run away with someone. She asks Vinay to help her and see that Meera does not run away. Even Vinay’s mother slaps his son hard and warns him not to do any foolish thing like running away with the bride.
The heroine gets desperate as the marriage date is fast approaching. With just a few hours left for the marriage, the hero takes a decision. What is the decision? How it affects everyone is the suspense element that unfolds on the screen.

Performance:

Newcomer Vinay has a good height and physique. He has tried his best to come across as a young lover who is ready to do anything fairly well. It is only his dubbing that seems to be a bit too loud in comparison with his personality.
Meera Chopra plays her role with perfection. She is also hot and sexy in the song “Vunnatta Leenatta…” in a hot red costume. She looks beautiful like Simran and young and bubbly like Genelia.
Suman as a retired colonel has done another good job. His role is not too big to make much impact. Jayasudha as Vinay’s mother also gives a good and restrained performance. The rest of the star cast is okay.
Music is average but the cinematography is good. The natural beauty of places around Bangalaore and the rain scenes have been caught on camera beautifully. Comedy is just average. MS Narayana and Dharmavarapu do their routine stuff.
Prabhu Deva and Sunil appear in the first song and perform some dance steps.
Even producer director MS Raju appears in the song ‘Sirimale Vaana Paduthondhi loona” dressed up as a farmer driving a tractor laden with hay.
The hero has a white rabbit named ‘Devadasu’ for company from star to finish.
The film is a remake of the Kannada film ‘Mungare Male’. However MS Raju has done a god job with the remake.
The film is just like any other love story but for the twist in the end. It is the ending that makes watching the film worthwhile.
Vaana is a good watch, and it is a must watch for today’s younger generation that is blinded by love. They defy everyone and everything in their momentary madness called love. The tagline “Prema Madhuram Tyagam Amaram” is very appropriate.

Pourudu-- Review

Average
Pourudu is a sensitive but hard-hitting portrayal of a father, son conflict and the menace of gangs and gangsters. Debutante Raj Adithya manages to come up with an interesting storyline with the usual gang rivalry amongst two rival groups as a backdrop.
Story:
Ajay (Sumanth) is a top ranker in the civil services exams. He is awaiting a call for the interview in Delhi. Pandu (Suman) is his father. Ajai hates his father for his violent methods. Pandu is the right hand man of Ali Bhai, a big gangster, who is seen as doing some good to society by doing what the police fail to do. Ajai falls in love with Samyuktha (Kajal) daughter of Dharmavarapu. Ajai all the time asks his father to leave Ali Bahi and lead a honest ad law-abiding life. Ajai’s philosophy is that it is the duty of the police and the judiciary to punish evildoers in society. Ali Bhai is not doing the right thing by taking the law into his own hands. Ajai misses going to Delhi to attend the interview as he is caught in a brawl with some gangster while they are bashing him up. Pandu treats Ali Bhai as a demi-god but the gangster shows his true colours and eliminates the upright and honest Pandu after he has served his purpose. The question before Ajai now is whether to go to Delhi and pursue his dream of joining the IAS or to stay back and take revenge on his father’s killers. This is the suspense that should be watched on the silver screen.
Performance:
Sumanth as an angry young man who has this love-hate relationship with his father does a decent job. He also comes out well in the fight scenes. It is Suman who steals the show. He plays the role of a loyal lieutenant of gangster, Ali Bhai and also that of a doting father to an angry young son to perfection. Kajal is okay. She comes across as a beautiful hot and sexy actress in the song ‘Andalu Neekandistha..’. Nazar, Kota, and others do justice to their roles. There are many comedians in the film but the comedy on the whole is just average. Ali once again plays the role of a transgender. Brahmanandam’s role is too brief to make any impact. Music by Mani Sarma disappoints. None of the songs are good except for one hot number “Andalu Neekandistha… Vayyarame Vaddistha…” The film is an honest attempt to look at the problem of gangs and gangsters from the eyes of a law-abiding citizen. The title ‘Pourudu’ is completely justified. The director however goes overboard with the violence. Too many necks are twisted and many hands and legs are broken in the most horrifying manner. The film is an average entertainer.

Presented by: Danayya
Producer: Kasi Viswanadham
Release date: 12 January 2008

Story: Krishna (Ravi Teja) is a happy-go-lucky guy in Vijayawada. He falls in love at fight sight with Sandhya (Trisha) who visits from Hyderabad. Sandhya is the sister of Shinde (Sayaji Shinde) who is a popular builder and mafia man. Jakka (Mukul Dev) is another mafia don who wants to marry Sandhya against her wishes. The film is all about how Krishna puts an end to Jakka and marries Sandhya.

Story - screenplay - direction: Story of the film is an old fashioned one. The screenplay of the film is good. VV Vinayak who proved himself as a good mass director strengthens his grip on comedy with this film. The way he created episodes for Brahmanandam are praise worthy and he made sure that there is no boring moment in the film.

First half of the film is breezy with nice mix of action and comedy. The second half’s graph goes down a bit during the flashback episode and pre climax scenes. But the director brought back the film on track with interesting climax by blasting a couple of fully-loaded lorries. The plus point of the film are comedy by Brahmanandam and Ravi Teja. VV Vinayak who disappointed us with his last film Yogi can have a sigh of relief now. On a whole, Krishna (the power of Indrakeeladri) is a decent entertainer.

Okkamogadu--review

Okka mogadu

Starring: Balakrishna, Anushka, Simran,Nisha Kothari and others

Director: YVS Choudhary

Music: Mani Sarma

Release fate: 11/01/2008

Okkamogadu is of, by and for Balakrishna. Director YVS Choduhary has put in more efforts to show Balakrishna in the most macho way possible but along the way he did not concentrate much on the script and the screenplay. The film reminds one of Bharatteyudu to a large extent and also Aparichithidu to a considerable extent.

Story:

Veera Vekata Sathyanrayana Swamy (Balakrishna) is a young man who lives with his aged grandmother. He is good-natured and comes to the aid of the needy. He takes on a powerful minister when he gives shelter to the runaway son of the minister who wants to marry a girl from a modest background.

As the young Balakrishna is fighting with the minister at one level, another person named Okkamogadu takes on the wrongdoers in the society. The CBI is after his trail. Finally they trace him to Venkatapuram.

This is shown as a flashback. Rajaram is a doctor in a small village. His younger brothers and sisters are brutally killed by the British army soldiers. This forces him to take up arms and put an end to their atrocities. Simran raises her voice against the British and is disrobed in public by a British officer. Rajaram saves her and later marries her. Rajarm gets the title of 'Okkamogadu' for his valour and fearless crusade against the British.

The rest of the story is about how 'Okkamaogadu' takes on the corrupt and inefficient people in the society.

Performance:

Balakrishna plays a dual role, as grandfather and grandson. The grandson has nothing much to do expect break into a dance with Nisha Kortthari and Anushka. He also gets to mouth some powerful dialogues and show off his trademark mannerism. The senior Balakrishna's martial art fights in the climax are good and have been executed very well. Anushka sizzles in her brief role. Her role is limited to dreaming about Balakrishna all the time and take part in three dance sequences with him. Simran is adequate in her role of a devoted wife of a revolutionary freedom fighter. Nisha Kotahri also does not have much of a role and is completely overshadowed by the gorgeous Anushka.

There is hardly any comedy. Raghu Babu plays the usual role of the sidekick of the bad guy.

The song 'Okkamogadu' with Anushka and 'Pattucheera…' with Anushka and Nisha Kothari are fast numbers and get some response from the audience.

Dialogus like "Iragadeestha", "Okasaari Modaledithe inka aapanu", "Naaku Modalu Pettadamae gaani aapadam teliyadu" bring some claps and whistles.

Balayya's getup as an old 'Okkamogadu' is a take off from Kamal Haasan in Bharateeyudu.

The film runs very slowly in the first half. The major part of the second half is like a period film about freedom struggle. Simran's song with 'Okkamogadu' after their marriage tests the patience of the audience and only helps to prolong the agony. The audience wait ant wait for something to happen, but unfortunately, their wait is futile. There is no big bang and the film ends tamely with a predictable climax.

OkkaMogadu--Mini Review

'Okka Magadu' is the most prestigious project from Y V S Chowdary in which Nandamuri Bala Krishna played double action. According to the first half of the review of the movie is concerned, NBK's double action and songs are very catchy. Anushka happens to be daughter of villain, she plays a negative role in the movie which replicates the role played Anjala Javeri in NBK's previous flick 'Samarasimha Reddy'. 'Okka Magadu' flick starts with some choosy scenes from Quit India Movement followed with fancy titles. Movie paces up slowly with Simran playing role of mother on young N B K for which she must be praised for perfect make up match, for this make up there is good appreciation from public. Some highlight scenes of the movie are Police in civil dress surround the residence of Balayya and club lovers together. N B K ( young) getting transformed to N B K (old) is really confusing factor and there is no clarity in this. This transformation would have been good if the flick would have been a suspense movie. On the whole first half of movie is entertaining fans. A song 'Devadhi.. Deva...' is crafted which sounds to be very attractive. Young N B K looks handsome followed with aged Balakrishna looks out for a dagger in graveyard where he encounters cops and kills him, this fight composition is good. A lady enters into village to make a documentary on this story, she is non other than Nisha Kotari, her introduction scenes comprises of lot of exposures, which would not be much appreciated by family members. Then follows a second song of the movie ' Ammatho....' thats ok. N B K star attraction is keeping audiences and fans sticked onto seats. There is no proper comedy being filmed in the movie. Subsequent to this song, N B K (Old) kills a couple of doctors, he threatens them to make their own postmartem report and puts an to their lives, these scenes could get some applaud from audiences. On the whole the movie has no much entertainment other than some exposures from heroines who does this skin show very competitively. Songs filming is impressive but meanings of songs are awfully bad, only music makes it to listen. N B K (old) make up is horrible, with lot of inconsistency in makeups. Story of the movie is quite chronic, its only image of N B K that is keeping fans and audiences sticked on to the seats, apart from this there is nothing much in the movie. Lot of publicity ground work is done for this movie, looks like it doesn't workout much because of routine storyline. On the whole its just an average movie so far, as its N B K flick it may go for sometime, if its done by any other star flick would have been a dam squib. Note : stay tuned for more updates

APADA MOKKULAVAADU--Review

y
POOR
Posani Krishna Murali created a lot of hype for his new film but the movie is a poor take off on the present political system and corruption. The film lacks conviction and the lack of a proper story and confusing screenplay further mar the picture.

Story:

Rangayya Naidu (Nagababu) is an honest ZPTC member. He works for the welfare of the people in his village. Shilpa Chakravarthy is his adoring wife. A corrupt minister Taniekella Bharani, an MLA and his henchmen are all controlled by a goonda named Suri. He holds the grip over the district.

The government releases a sum of 400 crore for immediate relief operations for victims of flash floods in the village. The minister, MlA ands his henchman conspire and swindle away the 400 crores. It is now left to the ZPTC members Rangayya Naidu to expose the corrupt minister and his gang and set things right. He gets help form a honest SP played by Sai Kumar.

The story looks simple and good but the jarring screenplay leaves people confused right through the end. The problem of corruption and violence in politics is as old as politics itself. Posani has not shown anything new nor has he come up with an alterative. His effort lacks conviction and leaves the audience also in a confused state.

Nagababu lands at the place of wrongdoing from the sky in the form of God (lord Venkateswara Swamy). How he manages to get into that form and how he manages to fly to the place of wrongdoing is also not explained and is left to the audience’s imagination. Even the bullets fired by the cops simply pass through his body as if through thin air.

Performance:

Nagababu is lean and active. He shows shades of Chiranjeevi in the long shots. Shilpa gives him adequate company. Tanekela Bhanrani as a corrupt minister goes about his job in his usual manner. Sai Kumar as the SP has a powerful role but his role is very short to make any impact.
Babu Mohan and Kota Shankar Rao as position leaders are reduced to jokers. Posani appears in a TV show in the film.

The music is also just average. There are a couple of item songs. The popular and sexy Udayabhanu features in one of them.

The word ‘Chiranjeevi’ is uttered several times in the film. Even Ram Charan’s Chirutha ad in a newspaper is shown and this evokes some claps from die-hard Chiranjeevi fans.

There is too much violence in the film. The heads roll like ninepins at the drop of a hat.
Posani fails to live up to the expectations of Operation Duryodhana. The film will come as a disappointment to even die-hard fans of the Nagababu and his family.
